Donald Trump may have announced a last-minute ceasefire agreement with Iran, but it has done little to quieten a growing wave of Democratic lawmakers calling for his removal under the 25th Amendment.

As of Tuesday, over 80 Democrats had posted on social media calling for Trump to be removed from the Oval Office, after he made genocidal threats to Iran saying “a whole civilization will die tonight,” and his expletive-ridden Easter Sunday post where he demanded Iran to “open the ****ing Strait”.

Lawmakers say such extreme rhetoric points to a deterioration in Trump’s mental fitness and renders him unfit to serve.

Republicans have been more muted on the issue. However, there are signs of unease on the right, with some GOP lawmakers criticising Trump’s increasingly violent language, which they say “goes against” American values.

Former allies and prominent MAGA figures have also expressed discontent. Alex Jones, Tucker Carlson and Marjorie Taylor Greene are among those who have publicly criticised Trump, with some calling for his removal.

Vedika Bahl examines the reaction from both Democrats and Republicans, and explains how the 25th Amendment works.
