Bali's picture-postcard image is cracking. On Indonesia's premium tourist resort, the race to build luxury villas and hotels has triggered an unprecedented property frenzy. Farmland is carved up into plots, coastline is privatised and bogus permits issued.
Construction sites are springing up everywhere on the Indonesian island. There is also no shortage of scandal. The latest concerns a panoramic glass elevator being built illegally on Kelingking Beach, a site of natural beauty. In response, Bali's governor says the elevator must be demolished within six months.
FRANCE 24's Antoine Morel, Justin McCurry and Leo Galuh report.
